The OVO4 takes home flight simulation to a new level

first_imgIn October last year I reported on what had to be the ultimate in home flight simulation. It was a custom build consisting of 6 displays, realistic cockpit controls and a seat straight out of a real plane. The only thing it didn’t do was simulate movement, but I don’t think that would really break the feeling of realism.Today, I may have found a successor to the custom build. It doesn’t use as many displays, but it does fully enclose the player in an egg-shaped cockpit, and most importantly, it moves, meaning that decent to the runway will feel all the more real. The OVO-04 is made by Virtual Fly who advertise it as a plug&play flight simulator that is very quiet and free of the need for a keyboard and mouse inside. It even has the PC shipped with it as a separate module containing the FSX software required to make it function.Serious flight simulation fans are most likely drooling right about now. Inside you’ll find 3 24-inch widescreen displays above an array of cockpit controls, instruments, and pedals. As it’s an enclosed unit, the integrated speaker system should make for a realistic sound experience too. It even has a light intensity system to match the lighting inside the cockpit with the time of day or night you are flying. The OVO-4 ships with Microsoft Flight Simulator X, so we assume its going to work with other flight simulation software too because it must be running Windows. If you want one, you had better start saving. The OVO-04 is listed for pre-order in the UK at Firebox for £35,995. That’s around $57,500, or $46,000 before sales tax. Yes, it’s a lot, but if you go home every night and sit playing on a flight sim for hours, it might actually be worth the investment, right?More at Virtual Fly, via Thinqlast_img
