Dave Collyer was commenting on plans announced by the Stelmach government, to reduce royalty rates for conventional oil and natural gas next year. However, not everybody is happy with the decision, and most of the opposition is coming from the left of the political spectrum.N-D-P Leader Brian Mason is trashing the Tory government over the move, claiming it has caved in, to energy industry pressure. In defending the initiative, Energy Minister Ron Liepert says the province was lagging behind other jurisdictions in terms of competitiveness.It remains to be seen what impact the move might have on those other jurisditions…but, we could get our first assessment in this area next week, when 77 parcels covering more than 25,000 hecatres are offered in the March Sale of Natural Gas and Petroleum rights.last_img read more
