Taps played for the city’s fallen in Iraq

first_imgAs the strains of taps reverberated through Los Angeles City Council Chambers, city officials wearing black arm bands paid homage Tuesday to nearly three dozen Los Angeles residents who have died in Iraq. Councilman Bill Rosendahl, wearing his American Legion cap, read aloud a list of those who have died in the war. It was Rosendahl’s first public denunciation of the war. “I have been silent on it all these years,” Rosendahl told his fellow council members. “I was a journalist when the war broke out, and I had (Rep.) Dennis Kucinich on my show, and he said the war was based on lies. He turned out to be right.” With the war entering its fifth year and more than 3,200 American deaths, Rosendahl said he felt it was appropriate for the city to remember those from Los Angeles who were victims. Taps was played by Iraq war veteran Jeff Key. rick.orlov@dailynews.com 213-978-0390last_img read more

‘Leroy Sane must have done something to upset Pep Guardiola at Man City’

first_imgSam Allardyce is at a loss to explain Leroy Sane’s sudden fall from grace within the Manchester City and Germany teams. The 22-year-old forward was voted the PFA Young Player of the Year last season for a terrific campaign in which he bagged 14 goals and 19 assists for the Premier League champions. And yet, the youngster was left out of Germany’s World Cup squad, he’s hardly played for Man City this season and he was left out of the Blues squad entirely in their most recent game against Newcastle United.Sane has also had his mentality questioned by Germany team-mate Toni Kroos, which ties in with reports that he was dropped by Pep Guardiola over his poor attitude in training. Sane made his Germany return in a UEFA Nations League clash against France on Thursday – but only as a 83rd minute substitute “But as a manger you would try to resolve the problem before you start leaving him out.“If you can’t resolve the problem you punish him, and there’s nothing worse than being left out of the squad – not playing is the most punishing thing for a player.“But I would have thought that you would try to resolve the problem as early as you possibly can to get that player back playing to his very best, as we all saw from him last season.”Listen back to Sam Allardyce on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast IN FULL above! Sane is yet to make a start for Man City this season – featuring in only three late substitute appearances 3 Allardyce has been left stunned by Sane’s situation, and believes his recent decline all stems from his omission from the World Cup – a decision which was slammed by fans and the press, as the defending world champions crashed out at the group stage without him.Big Sam added: “We didn’t see any bad body language from Sane last season for Manchester City, did we?“What happened to him in Germany was a massive shock across the world of football considering how good a season he had, so maybe he’s just come back a bit lethargic, a bit disappointed and upset. This might be the biggest setback he’s had in his life up to now, I don’t know.center_img Germany boss Joachim Low was criticised for leaving Sane out of his World Cup squad 3 3 And asked about the situation on Friday’s Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, Allardyce said: “I can’t understand, there must be something he had upset Pep with.“There has to be a problem – not with his footballing talent, I don’t think there’s any doubt whatsoever about that – but something must have happened between him and Guardiola.“To not go to the World Cup and for Raheem Sterling to come back, only have a week’s training and then play in the first game of the season – my alarm bells started ringing then.“Having only been used a substitute late on and then not even being included in the squad at all last week, that says there’s something wrong between Sane and Pep at the moment.“That shows the power of the manager, maybe in reverse of what’s happening at Manchester United with Paul Pogba, Pep is showing his power, that he is the manager and that he rules the roost, what he says goes.“But, it is slightly concerning that you haven’t got such a talent on the field.”last_img read more
