Olympians Arthur Wint, Herb McKenley and Dennis Johnson, as well stand-out coach Michael Clarke, will be among six luminaries to be honoured at the inaugural staging of the McKenley/Wint Track and Field Classic that will christen the new synthetic track at Calabar High School on January 23.Calabar High benefactors Ray Goldbourne and Dr. Don Philbert, who have both made significant contributions to the continued development of the Red Hills Road-based educational institution, will also be honoured during the meet that will feature Olympic Development races in the 400 and 800 metres and special 100-metre race for primary school athletes.Wint won Jamaica’s first ever gold medal in the 400 metres at the 1948 Olympic Games in London, England. He was also a member of Jamaica’s mile relay team that won gold in world record time at the 1952 Games in Helsinki.McKenley, the first Jamaican schoolboy to win a track scholarship, was a silver medallist in the 400m in 1948 and was a also member of Jamaica’s mile relay team that dramatically defeated the previously invincible Americans at the 1952 Games. He was also a successful track coach at Calabar High for more than a decade.Johnson, the first ever director of sports at the College of Arts, Science and Technology, was among the fastest men in the world over the 100-yard dash between the mid 1950s and early 1960s. He once equalled the world record four times within a one month span.Clarke has had tremendous success as a track coach and has led Calabar High to the last four titles at the ISSA/GraceKennedy Boys and Girls’ Championships. All six gentlemen will be honoured during the opening ceremony at the meet. “We will be presenting citations for each of them and will be handing over plaques of those citations,” said Andrea Hardware, a member of the organising committee.”We wanted this meet to be a development meet because both Mr. McKenley and Dr. Wint had been significant contributors to track and field, especially at the junior level, moreso Herb because he has been our coach for like the last 100 years before he retired, he was just there with us pushing and developing our programme in general and producing some outstanding athletes for us and for Jamaica.”So it is a meet honouring these two greats that have contributed so much to us as a nation,” Hardware stated.
A Baramita village, Region One (Barima-Waini), man was on Tuesday remanded to prison on four counts of attempted murder when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.Eddie Williams was not required to plea to the indictable charges as they were read to him by Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus. It was also reported that Williams dealt Thomas several chops about the body when he asked him for a “Bamboo” and Thomas did not comply.Williams, who is known to the police, was arrested and charged. The case will continue on May 7, 2019.
Share Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Numerous natural gas pipelines have been approved across the state with installation to begin this winter and continue over the next several years. These installations are statewide projects that will collectively result in a large amount of soil disturbance. The effect of this disturbance on crop productivity, and how long it may persist is largely unknown.Ohio State Extension will be starting a pilot study to document the effects of pipeline installations on crop productivity over the next several years. We are looking for interested farmers who will have a pipeline installed through their farm to participate. Our approach will be to use paired-comparisons of 1) area disturbed by pipeline installation versus 2) adjacent area that was not disturbed. We will compare soil properties and yield maps between installation area and adjacent area over the next several years. We will need numerous sites to have scientifically robust information.Interested farmer cooperators wanting to document the effects on their farm will need to:1. Identify and GPS reference one or more paired areas on their farms. These paired areas should be as similar as possible (equally productive, same soil type, same slope, tile, drainage, organic matter, etc.)2. Have yield map files from 2015 harvest in these areas (preferably have yield maps from several previous years).3. Sample baseline soils in these areas this fall after harvest but prior to pipeline installation.4. Be committed to sample soils and crop tissue from these areas and share yield maps from these areas every year.We are calling this a pilot project because we have yet to secure funding to conduct this research. But we need baseline information before the installation for the study to be meaningful. Interested famers/ landholders can contact Steve Culman for more information: email@example.com, (330) 263-3787.
Tags:#Location#NYT#web We first wrote about Factual in September and I’ve been excited about it ever since. The company’s location data seems to be getting good reviews from data consumers, but there are clearly sets that need cleaning up, too.Have you spent any time on Factual? What’s your assessment of the site’s viability? The company has assembled a very strong team, but it’s in a crowded market, too. If it can build a community of human editors, business users willing to write-back changes to its data set and strong technology to do the bulk of the heavy lifting and judgement calls on credibility, we may find the web using Factual to describe the world much like users use Wikipedia today to discuss and learn about it. That would be an exciting platform. 8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… marshall kirkpatrick Imagine an online community that combines user contributions, editing and fact checking like Wikipedia, with automated data extraction like Google and complex artificial intelligence to create a rich description of the world around us that is continually refined over time. That’s what well-backed data startup Factual is aiming to create and every time I learn more about it, I fantasize about getting in and contributing to that community just like early contributors to Wikipedia did. While Wikipedia is a huge destination site, however, Factual is a data service that will be used as a platform by other sites that want to borrow the data it has captured and refined about places, people and things in the real world. Founder Gil Elbaz, one of the inventors of the technology that became Google’s advertising platform and the leader who raised money from red hot investors Andreesen Horowitz for Factual, did a fascinating interview with GPS Business News this morning where we learned more about the technology behind his site.Elbaz tells interviewer Ludovic Privat that any partner site or individual can submit a data set, a data point or an opinion about a data point.“So if you go to one of our tables and double click into a cell, you’ll find a rich history of opinions about what, for example, is the right phone number for a business. Then it’s our job to examine all these opinions and look for some sort of consensus or pattern that leads us to believe that one of them is right and one is wrong. “The job of cleaning this data, looking for spammy submissions, analyzing the sources or users that are submitting this data and then trying to boil it down into the right answer requires a lot of technology…It also comes from a sophisticated machine-learning stack that can leverage a significant proportion of the web and use various natural language technologies to structure unstructured or semi-structured data that’s on the web and pull facts from the web to validate them. “It is a living, breathing database in the sense that our partners and end-users can access our write-to API and correct things in the database in real-time and our developers have real-time access to these corrections.”Elbaz says the company is incentivizing partners to participate in the refinement of the data, including through a program where users of the data can opt-in to sharing any improvements they make back with Factual. The company announced partnerships with Facebook Places and the wildly popular social game MyTown by Booyah, earlier this month. The first test for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), after the breakdown of the mahagathbandhan (grand alliance) and imprisonment of its president Lalu Prasad after conviction in a fodder scam case, is slated to come up next month in the byelection to the Araria Lok Sabha constituency in Bihar. The seat fell vacant on the death of the RJD MP Mohammed Taslimuddin in September last year. As per rules, the seat has to be filled within six months.Mr. Taslimuddin’s son Sarfaraz Alam is now a Janata Dal (U) legislator. He had fought on the JD(U) ticket as part of an understanding between the two parties. The party is now keen that he come back and contest the seat his father once held. “He [Sarfaraz Alam] is definitely one of the candidates we are considering but there are others too. We will take a formal decision once the election is notified,” RJD spokesperson Manoj K. Jha said. Mr. Alam on his part is ambivalent and is not denying that he may switch sides for the bypoll. “I believe that cadres are the actual party. I am currently in JD(U) and will take a call once I decide to fight,” he told The Hindu. In 2014, Mr. Taslimuddin had won the poll by a margin of over 1.46 lakh votes over the BJP candidate. The JD(U) candidate came a poor third in the contest. If one were to add the votes polled for JD(U) and BJP, they easily exceed RJD’s tally by over 83,000 votes. Mr. Jha disagreed that the bypoll will be a litmus test for his party or a bellwether for the 2019 Lok Sabha polls. “We had won the seat in 2014 despite a Modi wave. So I am sure we shall win it once more,” he said.

Normal anatomyThe rotator cuff is a group of muscles and tendons that form a cuff over the shoulder. These muscles and tendons hold the arm in its “ball and socket” joint and are involved in essentially all shoulder motions.IndicationsThe role of the tendons is to hold the powerful shoulder muscles to the shoulder and arm bones. The tendons can be torn from overuse or injury.ProcedureEither through an open incision or using small instruments through tiny incisions (arthroscopy), the tendon is repaired with sutures. If the tendon is separated from the bone, small rivets called suture anchors are used to attach the tendon back to the bone.AftercareSurgery to repair a torn rotator cuff is usually very successful at relieving pain in the shoulder. The procedure is less predictable at returning strength to the shoulder. Recovery time often depends on the extent of the tear.Review Date:6/30/2011Reviewed By:Linda J. Who will join Brooks for the Stagecoach lineup will likely be revealed in the months to come.Miley Cyrus Joined By Sister Noah, Whole Family To Sing “Achy Breaky Heart” Twitter
Do you think your telecom service provider has been playing an unfair game with you? Have you fallen prey to its exiting advertisements and opted to a plan that you never want to? It might have happened to many but henceforth, this might not happen again. In a bid to prevent the customers from being misled by the advertisements and subscribed to a wrong tariff, Telecom Regulator Authority of India (TRAI) has issued certain guidelines to the telecom operators in this regards. After holding a series of meetings with the stakeholders and engaging cross country open house discussions, TRAI has chalked out certain parameters that will help in deciding whether the advertizement of any service providers is sending a wrong message to its customers. Now, telecom operators have been directed that advertisements provided by them should be transparent, non-misleading and unambiguous; should disclose all material information in an unambiguous manner; contain the website address and customer care number of the telecom access service provider; and the advertisements issued in vernacular languages should contain all the mandatory disclosures in the same vernacular language.Meanwhile, the TRAI has mandated to maintain an advertisement register which should include a specimen of every tariff related advertisements by the telecom access providers. To ensure that the operators follow the guidelines, they have been instructed to carry out an internal audit and compliance to the Authority on half-yearly basis.According to the latest regulations issued by the TRAI, any advertisement that induces the consumer to subscribe to a tariff plan, which he would not have otherwise subscribed to, or if it contains an untrue statement or omits a material fact having bearing on the subscriber’s decision or fails to disclose attached limitations and restrictions, that would be considered as misleading of subscribers.
